This Week’s Make: Mushroom Glasses Holder
This week’s focus is one of my favourite kinds of makes — a new addition to my growing family of glasses holders. Mushrooms have been popping up everywhere on my crochet feed lately, so it felt like the perfect moment to finally create my own little woodland friend.
I started by looking at cartoon mushroom images to get a feel for the kind of face I wanted — something sweet, expressive, and full of personality. Then I ran one of my basic glasses‑holder shapes through AI to help me visualise how a mushroom version might look, especially since I needed to incorporate a little nose to hold the glasses. After that, it’s all about the logistics: taking the ideas I love, shaping them into a workable pattern, and adjusting things as I go. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes I make notes for next time — that’s the fun of designing.
He’s one of the brightest glasses holders I make, but still wonderfully simple. Just repetitive stitches, gentle shaping, and a whole lot of charm. And I love how bright and cheerful he turned out — a little mushroom saying “look at me!” in the cutest, most unassuming way.
If you enjoy behind‑the‑scenes making, I share photos and reels of the whole process on Instagram and TikTok — from yarn balls to finished mushroom. And of course, all finished glasses holders go into my store, along with the pattern for anyone who wants to make their own.
What I love most is how useful and personal these little characters are. Whether you’re crocheting one yourself or buying a finished piece, you end up with something handmade, soft, and functional — perfect for your bedside table, craft room, or gifting to someone who’s forever misplacing their glasses. And honestly, my products are for everyone who wears glasses or knows someone who does… which is most of us.
This mushroom is especially for the nature lovers, the woodland‑storybook dreamers, and anyone who’s ever believed the forest is full of tiny personalities. He’s a sweet little reminder of imagination, colour, and everyday joy.
Cheers,
Esma
