RED the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
RED the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Some makes feel like catching up with an old friend, and this week’s Hand‑Crocheted Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was exactly that. I’ve now made this sweet little pup three times — first in 2022, again in 2023, and now in 2026 — each one in a completely different colourway. It’s amazing how the same pattern can take on a whole new personality with just a shift in shades.
One of my favourite things about this design is how personal it can be. Each puppy gets its own little collar, with its name embroidered, which makes them feel so special. Whether it’s a tribute to a beloved pet who’s passed, a soft keepsake of a current furry friend, or a gift for someone who adores the breed, these pups carry a lot of heart. That’s why making them always feels meaningful to me too.
They’re also pretty quick to whip up, which makes the process even sweeter — a few colours, some shaping, a little face full of expression, and suddenly there’s a tiny Cavalier looking back at me with those gentle eyes.
This week’s pup is heading off on a big adventure to Sacramento, and I love imagining him settling into his new home, bringing a bit of handmade warmth to someone’s shelf, sofa, or bedside table. There’s something magical about knowing a cuddly little friend stitched here in Aotearoa is travelling across the world to be loved.
Here’s to this week’s Cavalier: soft, sweet, and stitched with love. And here’s to the joy of revisiting a design that still feels as special as the very first time.
Cheers,
Esma
